Ruten Inc. was founded in Cambridge in 2023 after years of building closed-loop neural interface systems and watching every device project spend months rebuilding the same firmware stack. Signal acquisition, artifact rejection, safety enforcement, stimulation dispatch, written from scratch each time. We built the SDK that keeps not existing.
Why we started Ruten
Rehabilitation device engineering has a recurring bottleneck: the closed-loop signal chain. Every project that integrates electrode acquisition, neural decoding, safety validation, and stimulation dispatch rediscovers the same problems around hardware abstraction, artifact rejection timing, and safety limit enforcement.
The research literature covers the neuroscience well. What it does not cover is the firmware layer that makes those algorithms run reliably on embedded hardware under the constraints of a device that will eventually need regulatory clearance.
Ruten was incorporated in 2023 to build that infrastructure layer as a product, not a per-project rebuild.
Who builds Ruten
A small team with deep backgrounds in neural signal processing, embedded firmware, and rehabilitation engineering.
Spent a decade building closed-loop signal chains for research-grade neural interfaces, working across embedded firmware and neural signal processing. Founded Ruten to give rehabilitation device teams the middleware infrastructure that kept not existing.
Built EEG-based motor imagery BCI systems with a focus on spike-sorting pipelines and real-time DSP on embedded hardware. Leads the decoder and artifact-rejection architecture inside the Ruten SDK.
Years writing device drivers and RTOS firmware for multi-channel neurostimulator systems, including USB/SPI/I2C peripheral integration across medical hardware platforms. Owns the hardware abstraction layer and device adapter registry in the SDK.
